City Road Primary School -December 2023

Dear parents and carers,

We have come to the end of another very busy and exciting term. Thank you to all our parents and carers for your ongoing support this term.

This term will end for children on Thursday 21st December 2023.

School will re-open for children on Tuesday 9th January 2024 at 8:45 am.

Therefore, I would like to wish you all a lovely Christmas and a Happy New year.  I hope you all have a relaxing time over the festive season.  We are looking forward to returning in January for the New Year and new term.

PE Kits

From the spring term onwards, children should come to school in their PE kit on their PE days. Please DO NOT send children into school with their PE bags.

A gentle reminder, that children should not come to school wearing any jewellery.

Focus on attendance and punctuality

Please ensure your child/ren are in school every day. School gates are open from 8:45 am till 8:55 am, which is plenty of time to make sure your child/ren are in school. Your child/ren needs to be in class  on time, so they can do their reading.

Punctuality is important, your child needs to attend school every day and on time. Arriving to school late is unsettling for children and disrupts the start of their day. Did you know? 10 minutes late every day = 33 hours lost learning each year!!

Late Collection charge to go into effect from January 2024

Driving and parking around school

We are continuing to see poor driving and parking every day, which puts everyone at risk. We are keen for children to walk and enjoy their journey to school. We know most of our school community live within a 10-minute walk from school, and we are keen to encourage as many families as possible to walk to school.

Anti-Bullying Week

Children in breakfast club have been working together all week to recognise, understand, discuss and share concerns around bullying.

Breakfast club children making friendship bracelets and continuing to raise awareness about bullying.

Collections for charities this half-term:

We have raised £177.88 for Children in Need.

We have raised £362.20 for Islamic Relief's Palestine Appeal.

Thank you to everyone for your support.

All staff training days: 2024 - 2025 are now on the website.

Education Visits and Visitors

Reception visit to Think Tank

Children took part in scientific investigations and used their problem-solving skills. They had the opportunity to explore the past by looking at Mini Brum. Also, Reception looked at the jobs of engineers; they got to plan their designs and work together collaboratively to build the tallest tower and test them out! It was great fun.

Y4 trip to Tamworth Castle

The children had a great time!

The children travelled back in time to the Anglo-Saxon and Viking Era. They were able to transfer the knowledge that they had learnt at school to the Anglo-Saxon unit of work in History. The artefacts that have been left behind beneath the earth tell of their lives, endeavours and exploits. What an amazing time they had to learn more and find out more about the wonderful history of Great Britain.

Whole school Panto: Cinderella

Children enjoyed watching the interactive Panto of the fairy tale Cinderella staged with fabulous costumes, music and songs!

Football Match City Road versus Barford

Well done Barford for an amazing win. Both schools have some great talent. We are looking forward to the next match!

Breakfast Club

Children enjoying the festive spirit during the breakfast club.

Visit from George Dixon School Choir

Edgbaston Reservoir Junior Parkrun

Thank you to the team from the Edgbaston Reservoir Junior Parkrun for coming to talk to our children. The Parkrun takes place every Sunday morning, and invites young people to walk, jog, or run a 2k route at Edgbaston Reservoir. It is an official Parkrun event with volunteer stewards.

The team are keen to see more young people participating in the event.

Thank you to the speakers, Han Zhang and his classmate, Haaris Qaiyum for sharing their amazing experiences.

Fond Farewell to staff

We are saying goodbye to Mrs James and wishing her a happy and healthy retirement.

We are also saying goodbye to Mrs Begum.

A big thank you and ‘Well done’ to staff

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our brilliant staff for their dedication and hard work this school term. We are truly blessed with a wonderful staff team who are committed to ensuring every child has the best school experiences.
