End of Year Message from the Head of School

Dear Parents and Carers 

As we come to the end of another successful academic year, I would like to thank our pupils, staff, parents and carers for their continued commitment and support. Our pupils have worked incredibly hard, made excellent progress and embraced every opportunity available to them, from exciting educational visits and enrichment activities to performances, productions and visits from a wide range of inspiring professionals. These experiences have helped to broaden their aspirations, develop their confidence and create many special memories.

As we prepare for the new academic year, we would like to remind all families of the importance of excellent attendance and punctuality. Every day in school matters, and arriving on time ensures that pupils are ready to learn, settled and able to make the most of every opportunity.

Good attendance remains a top priority at City Road Primary School, and building strong habits starts on day one. 

We would also like to thank our dedicated staff team for their hard work, professionalism and unwavering commitment to our children throughout the year.

To our parents and carers, thank you for working in partnership with us. Your support plays a vital role in helping our children thrive and succeed.

Finally, we say a fond farewell to our Year 6 pupils. They leave us as confident, capable and resilient young people, ready for the next stage of their educational journey. We wish them every success for the future and know they will always remain a valued part of our school community.

We hope you all have a safe, happy and restful summer break and look forward to welcoming everyone back in September.

Parent's evening will be held on the following date: 

Thursday 5th November: 4-7pm

We will let you know when appointments are available to book. 

Welcome back parties: Monday 7th September

We can't wait to see all our children on the first day back! We will be having afternoon parties for Y1–6 to celebrate the start of the new school year! Children can wear their party clothes (sensible footwear please). They can bring in packaged food (vegetarian) which must be in date and contain no nuts. Please do not bring in drinks. 

As nursery and reception children do not all start on the same day, we will be in touch about their party day. 

Mobile Phones and Smart Watches in School

From September 2026, the Department for Education's statutory guidance, Mobile phones in schools, requires schools to have a policy that prohibits the use of mobile phones throughout the school day. The guidance supports schools in providing a calm, safe and focused learning environment.

In line with this guidance, pupils should not bring mobile phones or smartwatches into school.

The only exception is for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils who have parental and school permission to walk home independently. These pupils may bring a mobile phone solely for use on their journey to and from school. The phone must be switched off before entering the school site and handed to the office on arrival, where it will be stored securely during the school day. It will be returned to the pupil at the end of the school day.

Smartwatches are not permitted in school for any year group, including Year 5 and Year 6, as they have many of the same functions as mobile phones, including messaging, internet access and photography.

Welcome Back in September

We're excited to welcome children back with a special visit from farm animals  on their first day! This fun enrichment experience is designed to help children reconnect with friends, build positive relationships, and feel excited about returning to school. Our aim is for every child to feel welcomed, happy and ready for a fantastic year of learning ahead.

School Expectation – September start

To help your child make a positive start to the new school year, please ensure they arrive in the correct school uniform and have the appropriate PE kit on their PE days.

For health and safety reasons, pupils should not wear hoop earrings, rings, necklaces or other jewellery to school.

Water Safety

Summer Water Safety Reminder
As the weather gets warmer, we encourage all families to stay safe around water. Pupils should always be supervised near rivers, lakes, canals, ponds and swimming pools. Remember the Water Safety Code: Stop and Think, Stay Together, Float if you fall in, and Call 999 in an emergency. Learning how to float and understanding water safety can help save lives.

Summer Fayre

Thank You to Our Parents and Families

A huge thank you to all our parents, families and community members for your support at our Summer Fayre. Thanks to your generosity and participation, we have raised valuable funds that will be used to support exciting Enrichment Days for our pupils. These experiences help enhance learning, broaden horizons and create lasting memories. We are incredibly grateful for your continued support and look forward to sharing these opportunities with the pupils in the coming year.

 

Great British Summer

This summer, families may be able to enjoy a range of discounts and activities through the Great British Summer Savings Scheme. Offers may include reduced prices on family days out, children's meals, cinema and theatre tickets, and attractions such as adventure centres and soft play venues. Children aged 5–15 may also be able to travel for free on local bus services during August, helping families explore more for less. As not all venues are taking part, families are encouraged to check with individual attractions and restaurants before visiting. To find out what offers are available in your area, search online for Great British Summer Savings and enter your postcode. We hope you have a fun-filled and enjoyable summer!

Great British Summer Savings

Rising prices can make life's little treats harder to afford, especially during the school holidays when costs build up for families. This Government is determined to help, and that is why last month the Chancellor announced the Great British Summer Savings scheme.

From 25 June to 1 September 2026, the Government is temporarily cutting VAT from 20% to 5% on children's meals in restaurants, children and family tickets to cinemas, theatres, concerts and exhibitions, and admission to a wide range of attractions. Combined with free bus travel during August for children aged 5 to 15 in England, families and young people will be able to enjoy experiences that make summer special, including visits to the kinds of cultural and educational attractions that enrich children's lives outside the classroom.

The public are ready to get behind the scheme and are keen to take advantage of the discounts available. As trusted pillars of their communities, schools play a vital role in connecting families with important information.

We need you to help spread the word. So please share details of the Great British Summer Savings scheme through your newsletters, school apps, and other communications to parents and carers, so that the families in your school community know about the experiences they can enjoy this summer for less.

This forms part of a broader effort by the Government to ease financial pressures on families. From ending the two-child limit and expanding free school meals, to rolling out free breakfast clubs and delivering 30 hours of free childcare, this Government is taking action to put more money back into parents’ pockets and give every child the best possible start in life.

As part of this campaign, we have launched an attraction finder website which allows families to type in their postcode and find participating venues near them to make the most of summer savings. To use the attraction finder, please visit https://summersavings.gov.uk.
