Summer 1 Newsletter

Message from the Head

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of Summer 1, I would like to take a moment to share how proud we are of all our children. It has been a busy and enjoyable half-term, with pupils taking part in a range of fun activities, engaging lessons, and exciting trips. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, curiosity, and positive attitudes to learning.

We are now looking forward to Summer 2, where there will be many more opportunities for children to learn, grow, and celebrate their achievements.

I would also like to extend my warmest wishes to all families who are celebrating Eid. We hope this special time has brought joy, reflection, and meaningful moments with loved ones.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warm regards,
Mrs Begum
Head of School

•Applying sunscreen before school

•Having a refillable water bottle to school every day

•Wearing a suitable sun hat, if needed

•Wearing sunglasses, if needed

Safety Guidance: Appropriate Head Coverings in School

Keeping All Children Safe During Physical Activity

The safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. During PE lessons, outdoor play, and all active movement throughout the school day, it is essential that clothing and head coverings do not present a risk to children.

For this reason, any child who chooses to wear a hijab or head covering must wear a pull-on, sports-safe style that:

  • Fits securely
  • Has no loose or hanging fabric
  • Cannot be pulled, caught, or wrapped during movement

Important Safety Rule

Long scarves or wrap-around hijabs are not permitted in school.

This rule applies:

  • Throughout the entire school day
  • During playtimes
  • During PE and physical activities

Loose or trailing fabric can become caught or accidentally pulled, creating a serious safety risk for the wearer and for other children.

Safe Alternatives

To support families in making safe and informed choices, the school recommends the following acceptable alternatives:

  • Pull-on, sports-safe hijab styles
  • Close-fitting head coverings
  • Secure hats or caps suitable for active movement

These options allow children to remain comfortable, confident, and safe while taking part fully in school life.

Our Commitment to Inclusion and Safety

This guidance has been introduced solely for health and safety reasons and is in line with our School Uniform Policy and our duty of care to all pupils.

We are committed to:

  • Respecting religious and cultural dress requirements wherever possible
  • Making reasonable adjustments
  • Ensuring no child is placed at risk during school activities

If parents have questions or wish to discuss individual circumstances, they are encouraged to contact the school so that we can work together to find a safe solution.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in helping us keep every child safe.

Water Safety Reminder

As the weather warms up, many families will spend more time near water—whether at the beach, pools, lakes, parks or even in the garden pools.  We’d like to remind everyone about the importance of staying safe.

Please ensure children are always supervised closely around water, no matter how confident they may seem. Accidents can happen quickly and silently, so active and constant supervision is essential.

Encourage children to follow simple safety rules, such as staying within safe areas, avoiding running near water, and listening carefully to adult instructions. It’s also helpful for children to stay hydrated and take breaks when playing in the sun.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping all children safe.

What is changing?

From September 2026, the Government is expanding eligibility for Free School Meals. This means that all children whose households receive Universal Credit will be entitled to Free School Meals, regardless of earnings. The previous income limit of £7,400 no longer applies.

What this means for families

  • If your household receives Universal Credit, your child may now be eligible for Free School Meals even if you were not previously entitled.

  • Free School Meals are not applied automatically. You must still make an application so that the school can confirm eligibility and ensure your child receives meals.

  • Even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 (where meals are already free), applying is important as it helps the school access additional funding to support pupils.

What do you need to do?

If you think your child may be eligible, please apply for Free School Meals. Applications will open ahead of September 2026 and usually require:

  • Your National Insurance number

  • Confirmation of Universal Credit or other qualifying benefits

Why it matters

Free School Meals ensure children have access to a nutritious daily meal and may also unlock additional support for schools, such as Pupil Premium funding.

If you would like help applying or have any questions, please contact the school office in confidence.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for your generosity in raising money for Children in Need. We raised £166.67.

For Comic Relief and Enrichment Day, we raised a total of £222.35, which will be split 50/50 between the charity and the school.
