Summer 1

Dear parents and Carers,

Thank you for all your support this half-term.

We have had many exciting experiences and learning activities which the children have thoroughly enjoyed.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and I wish you all a wonderful half-term break.

Regards

Rashida Begum

Head of School

Attendance

Please note: If your child is absent, you must inform the school on the morning of the absence. Please do this via the Arbor App or by phoning the school office on 0121 464 3348.

We aim for the best education for your children at City Road Primary School. Full attendance and punctuality are essential for your child to make the maximum progress.

Unfortunately, we continue to see children arriving late for school. I would appreciate your support in ensuring your child arrives at school before 8:45 am. This enables them to be ready for class, as well as establish great punctuality habits for life.

To reach the school target, pupils must not have any more than 6 days off per academic year. If you need to make appointments for your child, please aim to make them outside of school hours or during the school holidays. Thank you.

Arbor App

Please use the Arbor app as the preferred way of communicating between home and school.

Sometimes we will send out text messages for more urgent matters or if you have not yet read the in-app message – these will appear as a mobile phone number. You can save this number, so you will know these messages are from school.

You can also reply to text messages if you wish to update the school on something.

There will be support available to you during the parents' evening; please come and see our staff, who will be more than happy to help.

Uniform

Please ensure that your child always comes to school in the correct full school uniform and footwear.  Please ensure they also have the correct PE kit and black pumps or trainers.

Donations needed

If you have any school uniform in good condition that your child has grown out of, we would be grateful for donations.

Wearing jewellery in school reminder

Again, I would like to remind parents and carers that children are not allowed to wear any form of jewellery that can cause them or another child an injury. Necklaces, bracelets, or hoops, dangling or ear-studs with long backs which can cause very serious injury if a child has an accident.

Mobile Phones

This is a gentle reminder not to use mobile phones whilst on the school site.

This is part of our safe-guarding policy for all our children.

The children in our pre-formal class went to Teenie Weenie's soft play area. The children had an extraordinary and enjoyable experience. Children utilised their cognitive abilities, with guidance from their teachers, to engage in play activities involving various equipment such as tunnels, slides, ball pits, climbing structures, rope swings, and scramble nets. This excursion facilitated the growth of children's autonomy, ingenuity, and aptitude for resolving challenges. The children exhibited exemplary behaviour and were a true testament to the high standards of City Road Primary School.

In nursery, we promote healthy eating and speak to the children regularly about healthy choices and exercise. Children had an array of fruit - watermelon, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, grapes and kiwi. The children explored the colours and textures of the fruit and learnt the names. They tasted the fruit, and it was lovely to see children trying certain fruits for the first time and loving it! In keeping with our summer theme, the children then used their imagination and created many types of minibeasts like butterflies, caterpillars, worms, spiders, ladybugs and many more using the fruit. It was a fun and flavourful day at the nursery!

Year 2 made a healthy chocolate treat which looked and tasted nice. The children had to use all the skills they had previously learnt, such as cutting, weighing and mixing and applying them in making their final product. The children really enjoyed it and said "Can we make it again?"

Y3 Visit to The Canals

Year 3 explored Birmingham's Roundhouse in an exciting, guided walking tour. They learnt interesting facts about the history of Birmingham’s canal network.

The children participated in a digestive system workshop where they interactively learnt about the digestive process. They began with all the food groups and acted out the digestion. The children also took on the role of the heart, lungs and blood vessels (crawling through tunnels to show clogged arteries).

They then had the chance to set off and explore how our bodies function (getting heart rates up with exercise) and how the world has changed over time. Many children enjoyed taking on the role as a pilot in the first spitfire plane.

We also got the chance to explore the science garden where children could explore weight, force and the power of water. Both the staff and children had a great day.

Year 5 spent their morning baking orange cakes. They were able to weigh the different ingredients, crack eggs and decide what fruit they wanted to put inside. Strawberries were VERY popular!
