In  2013 the government began to allocate additional funding to primary school headteachers – the Primary PE and Sports Premium – to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sports in primary schools in England. The funding is ring-fenced and can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools.

This year, the Government have doubled the Primary PE and Sports Premium allocation and require schools to use the increased funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sports offered.
