Year 5 is when children join Upper Key Stage 2 – we are getting ready for the demands of Year 6!
Summer Monday 5 January 2015
Guided Reading: Children engage in discussions about books that they read as a group. They carry out activities to enhance their understanding of the content and structure of both fiction and non-fiction texts. All groups will work with an adult at least once a week but are encouraged to work independently to complete tasks set.
Reading Journals: The children have individual to record independent reading and are encouraged to make comments about their reading preferences and express their opinions. The journals are regularly checked by the class teacher and children’s comments are discussed. We also welcome any comments from parents in their child’s reading journal.
Class Reading Journal: Each child has the opportunity to take the Class Reading Journal home over the course of a weekend. In the journal they are asked to write a review of a book they have recently read and return this on Monday. They then present their review to the class.
Homework is given out on Fridays and is expected back by the following Wednesday. This will include MyMaths tasks which are completed on-line. Children have been given individual log-ins to enable them to access this homework – if children are unable to log in then they should speak to their class teacher immediately so this can be resolved. A topic based task is also set which is sometimes linked to Literacy, Science or the Active Curriculum. Children are encouraged to be creative and present their homework findings in a variety of ways, e.g. models, oral presentations, PowerPoints etc.
