Key Skills

By the end of Year 3, children are expected to know the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. This includes knowing the related division facts and knowing the times tables in any order, rather than just counting up.

Please support your child with learning their times tables.

Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home. Please record that you have listened to your child read at least once a week in their reading record. Encourage your child to talk about what they have read and answer questions. This helps to develop their understanding of the texts they read.

In their reading records there is also a list of spellings that they are expected to know by the end of the year. Please ensure your child practises these words at home. We will be focusing on 5 of these words each week and will test their knowledge through spoken sentences.
