Guided Reading: Children engage in discussions about books that they read as a group. They carry out activities to enhance their understanding of the content and structure of both fiction and non-fiction texts. All groups will work with an adult at least once a week but are encouraged to work independently to complete tasks set.
Reading Journals: The children have individual to record independent reading and are encouraged to make comments about their reading preferences and express their opinions. The journals are regularly checked by the class teacher and children’s comments are discussed. We also welcome any comments from parents in their child’s reading journal.
Class Reading Journal: Each child has the opportunity to take the Class Reading Journal home over the course of a weekend. In the journal they are asked to write a review of a book they have recently read and return this on Monday. They then present their review to the class.
