Homework and Reading

By on Monday 5 January 2015

Homework is given out on Thursday and is due in on the following Tuesday. Children are encouraged to take ownership of their own homework and are expected to hand it in independently.

Homework may consist of:

  • research for a given topic
  • maths
  • literacy
  • reading comprehension
  • spelling and grammar

Homework does not always relate to a lesson it may be focusing on a specific skill e.g. reading comprehension – the text will be appropriate for a Year 2 child and the questions are designed to support the child’s learning.

Homework may occasionally involve discussions and no recording.

MyMaths is an online teaching resource that supports the lessons and is used as a homework resources. Homework will be set weekly but you can always log on and work through the tutorials at your leisure.

Reading in Year 2

Children have access to a class library where they can change their books as often as they please, they are encouraged to change them at least weekly and complete a book review sheet independently. These books are designed to be shared and to promote reading for pleasure. Reading Journals are a valuable way of communicating with the class teacher what is being read at home, this does not have to just be a school book, any reading can be recorded.
